About:

Do student email accounts expire?

Description:

McMaster alumni do not retain access to the @mcmaster.ca account they used as students.

Solution:

The Alumni Association offers Email forwarding for those wanting to keep their McMaster related email address.  Please refer to their website for information on email forwarding:

Student email accounts typically expire at the end of January following their convocation.

Example:  if a student has their convocation in May 2024, their student email account will expire in January 2025.  Notifications will be sent out to the student's McMaster email address in the month their account is set to expire.  The notification provides information on how to export their email and OneDrive files before their account expires as well as information on how to sign up for email forwarding through the Alumni Association.

Please note:

The only option available to alumni is email forwarding through the Alumni Association.

The Alumni should set up forwarding through the alumni office when their Email account is expired (as indicated with the field Email Expiry in the MacIAM portal).

Alumni will receive Advance notifications of when their email access will be removed as McMaster alumni do not retain access to the @mcmaster.ca account they used as students.

Additional Info:

If you need to maintain your account for research or other work purposes, your supervisor must submit a POI request for you.
