Introduction: 

  • The following steps must be used to back-up or migrate a OneNote Notebook(s) from a McMaster account to another account or to migrate notes from one Notebook to another Notebook at McMaster.
  • The steps are helpful if you are graduating or leaving McMaster and would like to keep a copy of your notes.

Pre-requisites:  

• A Windows or Mac device with the downloaded OneNote client
• A second Microsoft account (such as a personal account)

Step By Step Guide: 

Prior to completing the steps below to migrate or backup the OneNote notes to another account with sufficient cloud storage must be created.
1. Sign in to the OneNote App with your McMaster account and second account.
2. Create a new notebook with the second account.
3. Open or navigate to the notebook that you are looking to migrate.
4. Right-click on the first section in this notebook and select 
"Move/Copy". Recommendation is to use the "Copy" function. Copying will ensure that your original notes are not lost during the transfer.

5. Locate your new notebook in the dialogue box and select Copy. It can take a while to complete depending on the size of the section. If you do not see your new notebook on the list, make sure that the notebook has been opened.
6. Repeat Step 4 for each section of each notebook.
