MFA App Install

You can download the Microsoft Authenticator app via this link here:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/mobile-authenticator-app  

Once installed on your smartphone or tablet: Open the Microsoft Authenticator app, tap the plus icon on the home page to add a new account. Choose "Work or School account," sign in using your McMaster email and password. 

To remove/reset the connection on the Microsoft Authenticator App - Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and remove any existing McMaster accounts. To do this, tap on the McMaster account, then tap the gear icon in the top right corner and select "Remove Account." 

 After you've removed all McMaster accounts, tap the plus icon on the home page to add a new account. Choose "Work or School account," sign in using your McMaster email and password.

Here are several options to choose as your second factor: 

  • The Microsoft Authenticator smart phone app is the recommended method because of its ease of use and enhanced security. The app can be configured to use either a push notification (most convenient) or a verification code (most secure). The Microsoft Authenticator app includes additional benefits that you can leverage to protect your personal account.   •  SMS text messages can be used to send a 6-digit code to your mobile phone, then entering that code at log in as the second factor. 
  •  Phone calls can be placed to your mobile or office phone to provide you a 6-digit code, then entering that code at log in as the second factor.
